Gotye

Um.... Wally aka Gotye (awesome indie Australian muscian) played at the Academy 3 in Manchester. Pure brilliance. His set was incredible and although I was disappointed more Australians didn't show up I was able to meet and greet the man himself. He will take the world by storm one day.

I don't know what this means but I like the bright colours that contrast well with the constant greyness of "The Rainy City"... I just noticed it looks like he has 3 arms?
When you're living in the great mother land - also known as England... you really need to stock up on "wellies", gum boots... or whatever you fancy calling them. Primark, £8.

I start over...

Ahh ok so i'm such a slacker.. life has been busy! I am going to try my best to keep up-to-date with my blog. And i'm thinking of changing it up a bit. Text is probably boring so i will add more photos ... at random.. that will have different meanings and relevance to my life.

Enjoy yo. T

Goodbye LA, Hello UK.

My last week in Los Angeles was definitely a big one. I packed in shopping (new sunnies - Ray Ban Wayfarers, CK watch, clothes, shoes... I couldn't help myself. The country is going into recession so they put 50% off price tag on everything!). A trip to disneyland, clubbing and helping a friend move apartment.

Disneyland was awesome. If you're in LA it's a must-do no matter how old you are. The rides were fantastic and the disney parade bought back wonderful childhood memories of my love of cinderella and the little mermaid.

Les Deux, hottest club in LA, was pumping the night before July 4. Everyone was out having a great night dancing, drinking and chatting away. You have to pay to sit in a booth (rent it for the night) so naturally, you try make friends with the rich kids from the OC and hope they ask you to sit. I've never seen so many beautiful people in one place. Definitely a night to remember - it was a great send off for my next big adventure. I'll be back in LA no doubt. I just need to save up as I'm sure I'll return back home with zero funds.

I have just arrived into Manchester and realise that for an Aussie, it's rediculously expensive! Prices are the same as everything back home, just change the dollar symbol to pound. I have divided my savings into about a third (credit card fees add up) so I'm not sure how that'll last as I could easily spend that amount in 2 weeks.

Ah well, I'm a poor student living on the edge. What a life!

Until next time...

FYI: Australian-isms

A few interesting things for the Aussies reading. I had a fair few Americans laughing at me over the past 2 weeks - they don't know what the following words are/mean and found it quite amusing:

- sunnies (sunglasses)
- maccas (mcdonalds)
- brekkie (breakfast)
- bogan (poorly dress, scraggly person)
- pluggers (thongs, flip-flops)
- fortnight (2 weeks)
- bottolo (bottle shop, liquour store)
- double "insert number here" (2 x "number")

They don't really have a slang.. So there wasn't much I didn't get.

Life keeps getting better

What a CRAZY 2 weeks I have had. The internship was mental. Literally. It went so quickly and we did so much! Research, ananlysis, design, document, collaborate, argue, laugh, comprimise... it was definitely a learning process and i'm so glad to be involved in it. We worked til the early hours of the morning every night for the past week to finish our presentation for the master plan of the cap of the 101 freeway (check out www.edaw.com/intern08 for further info). Anyway the project response from client and stakeholders was fabulous. It appears they are very keen to move forward with the project. All interns spoke really well and were not shy to speak to the community afterwards to further explain the project. I heard many positive comments and even though the model wasn't finished, they could see the concept and really liked it!

I met some wonderful people in this program from around the world - Americans, Europeans, Asians - all were unique and friendly so we got along quite well. Possibilities now appear endless for travel and work abroad... But I'm keeping that on the down-lo.
