Finally arrived in Los Angeles! My darling, beautiful girl friend picked me up from LAX (which by the way at 6.30am is so quiet - I was expecting people everywhere and for it to be a bit fancy - but it was kind of dull and uninteresting...). Driving on the right side is strange for me and a bit scary! The roads are huge!
Day 1 in LA
Car wash, acting class, 24 hour supermarket trip, meeting the housemates
First impressions of LA
The city
Concrete everywhere, hardly any trees, dirty and poor roads, lots of cars, dry and hilly landscape
The people
I've only met 3 Americans so far because I'm actually living with 3 other Aussies and a South African who are so kind and happy. Nearly all of their friends are ex-pats - lots of other Aussies mostly - and so I'm not so sure I'll be mixing much with Americans.
However from the 3 that I've met they've all been lovely - and loud. One in particular who I spoke with for the longest amount of time kept having to re-ask me what I said. Apparently my accent is strong - she really couldn't understand me. That was kind of bizarre - I could understand her perfectly. I guess they're not really "exposed" to the Australian accent (however she teaches Aussies in acting classes...). And they all say put "o" in front of everything like "o that's fantastic", "o thank you so much" and "o you're welcome".
The food ($ = USD)
I went to this 24hr supermarket called Ralphs. WOW can I just say how good / cheap it is! You can get like a 1.5 litre bottle of Sauv Blanc for $5. Grey goose vodka for $15. Girls - you'd be in heaven. And there is pretty much an entire isle dedicated to alcohol - at the local supermarket!
Well that's all for now. I'm going to watch some Gossip Girl and fall asleep as I'm very tired and jetlagged. I put off Sex and The City tonight which is a little upsetting. I feared that I'd fall asleep during the movie and that would not be good!
Until next time... bye for now.
